Developed for ergonomics and packaging design class within the bachelor’s program.
A complete knife set with a paring, chef’s, and bread knife, plus a cutting board and stand, all in one package.
This project aims to enhance ergonomic design and packaging. It targets creating a more ergonomic handheld tool and developing sustainable packaging, focusing on a knife and its box.
Ergonomics and Handling
Research indicates incorrect knife grips reduce safety and efficiency; the proper technique is pinching the blade near the handle.
Incorrect: Griping the handle
Incorrect: Index Finger on Blade
Correct: Pinch Grip
Storage Challenges
Unprotected knife storage in drawers heightens injury and dulling risks. Blocks are safer but pricey and may have unneeded knives.
Unsustainable
Knives are often sold in plastic packaging, quickly becoming waste and polluting the environment.
Uselessness
Durable knife boxes, like wooden ones, are often discarded, missing chances for reuse or recycling.
Research suggests three knives—a chef’s, bread, and paring knife—suffice for most cooking needs, allowing quality investment on a budget per culinary experts.
